This article appeared on the ABC News site about Adam Scott’s win in the Australian Masters. For the most part the article is fine, but I don’t like this quote one bit.
Unlike at the British Open, where Scott relinquished a four-hole lead with four holes to play in July to let slip what would have been his maiden major title, this time he showed superb composure.
I don’t get it. What has the British Open got to do with his play around Kingston Heath? Are journalists going to mention The Open every time he wins or has a near miss? This journalist (who is not mentioned) just doesn’t get it. I personally believe Adam showed great composure during and after his near miss at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.
Adam’s play at Kingston Heath this week should be applauded. He was brilliant (as was Poulter) and trying to compare the two events is sensationalism and laziness. Unfortunately, this is somewhat typical in this digital age. There is also very little accountability – they can almost print what they like and get away with it. That part of the article certainly rubbed me up the wrong way.
What are your thoughts? Am I being too harsh here?
